List of Microsoft Office Alternatives

Few people know that there are alternative systems to the expensive Microsoft Office that has as much functionality and can even create and open the same documents (most of the time).

Here is a list of Microsoft Office alternatives, that can be found for almost any operating system:

OpenOffice by Sun Microsystems (Free – RECOMMENDED)

Abiword (Free)

StarOffice (Not Free, related to OpenOffice)

All of the above are available for free download at various sites on the Internet. Some of them are open source. This list is by no means complete, so for a complete list google “open source office” (and perhaps a few other phrases).

For the most recent version of each, we recommend the software manufacturer’s website as it will have the most up to date version for download.
